The June poll results are here!

02.07.2019

The poll question in June asked which criterion within the element “Curriculum Implementation” users find most difficult to address. Here are the results:

A clear majority of 47% think that Contextualisation of STEM teaching is most difficult to address. This is perhaps because making connections to the real world is not easy. But that does not mean that it’s less important: Real-life experience can not only facilitate students’ understanding of theoretical concepts, it can also motivate them to engage more in STEM related topics.

The other two criteria are less troublesome to STEM School users and received nearly equal results: 27% consider Interdisciplinary Instruction as most difficult, while 26% think so of Emphasis on STEM topics and competences.

Interdisciplinary Instruction aims at giving instruction across different curricular disciplines, STEM subjects, including the preparation within interdisciplinary teacher groups. For example, the seventh grade Language Arts, Science and Social Studies teachers could work together to form an interdisciplinary unit on rivers.

Finally, the Emphasis on STEM topics and competences happens at a school level, when not only STEM subjects and topics bur also STEM key competences are highlighted in the school’s curriculum. You can help your students in their development of their STEM literacy and STEM capability by promoting STEM learning in your curriculum planning and teaching approaches.

In July, we are curious to learn more about what criterion within the STEM School Key Element “Assessment” you find most difficult to address. Is it “Continuous Assessment” or rather “Personalised Feedback”? Read more on what these criteria mean, go through the checklists and vote for the latest poll question on the Collaborate page!
